Minister Žužul held a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs...

On Friday, 14 January 2004, Mr. Miomir Žužul, the Croatian Foreign Minister, held a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The conference was attended by 70 journalists from all Croatian media, as well as by correspondents of foreign media accredited to Croatia.

Minister Žužul talked about five goals and priorities of the Croatian foreign policy: admission of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union as a full member, entry of Croatia to NATO, establishment of good relations and resolving all open issues with the neighbouring countries, efficient functioning of economic diplomacy and the realisation of real image of Croatia in the world. Minister informed media representatives about meetings, talks and contacts upon the return from his diplomatic tour, the visit to the Pope Jean Paul II, participation at the Bertelsmann Forum in Berlin and notably about successful talks with leaders of the EU in Brussels and the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, in which Mr. Ivo Sanader, Croatian Prime Minister, and his delegation, participated as well.

In one hour meeting with journalists, Minister Žužul talked about the future structure of the Croatian diplomacy, professionalism and efficiency of conducting the Croatian foreign policy which is the fundamental task of the Foreign Ministry. The journalists were informed about possible future changes of personnel and issues which will be harmonised primarily with the interests of the Croatian state and its efficient representation abroad.

At the end, Minister Žužul replied to journalists' questions and said that the Croatian government and its diplomacy are really ambitious and strong, and that they do not doubt results and success, which was confirmed by the recent diplomatic tour.
