Minister Pusić to attend Munich Security Conference

First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusić will attend the 51st Munich Security Conference (MSC), held 6-8 February 2015.

The topics will include the impact of the Ukrainian crisis on the international order and the European security architecture, deterioration of the situation in the Middle East, fight against terrorism and global refugee crisis.

Numerous political and military leaders have confirmed their attendance, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden, as well as American and Russian foreign ministers Kerry and Lavrov.

Pusić is to attend the ceremonial opening 6 February, which will also see the attendance of German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. She will also participate in a panel discussion by the BMW Herbert Quandt Foundation on “Rethinking Energy Security: Independence in an Interdependent World” and numerous other panels. On 7 February Pusić will attend a working breakfast titled “Women’s Breakfast” organized by the State Government of Bavaria, Hanns Seidel Foundation and the Women in International Security. Pusić also plans to hold a series of bilateral talks with her counterparts and NGO representatives.

The MSC was held for the first time in 1963 under the moniker “Internationale Wehrkunde-Begegnung” and has since grown into one of the world’s most prominent gatherings on security. The Conference represents an independent forum dedicated to the promotion of peaceful solutions to conflicts, and international cooperation and dialogue in dealing with the present and future security challenges.
