Minister Pusić: Tailor-made approach for each EaP country

First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusić attended the fourth Eastern Partnership (EaP) summit, held 21 and 22 May in Riga.

Pusić underlined three achievements of the Summit that the Latvian foreign minister called “the summit of the survival of the EaP concept”.

“Previously it was considered that each country in the EaP has to go through two agreements – a free trade agreement and an agreement on association. Today, the consideration is that it need not be like that and that it is logical that each country decides how it wants to proceed,” Pusić said.

She underscored that visa liberalisation was the third vital point in the joint declaration which states that the Commission will review progress in Georgia and Ukraine to see if they meet technical criteria to remove the visa regime. “Right not we cannot say what the final draft of the declaration is going to look like because Azerbaijan expressed certain reservations. We will have to see how that is going to be resolved,” Pusić added.
