Minister Pusić receives Ecuadorian Deputy FM Leonardo Arízaga

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić met with Deputy Foreign Minister of Ecuador Leonardo Arízaga, who is leading an Ecuadorian delegation on a working visit to Croatia

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić met with Deputy Foreign Minister of Ecuador Leonardo Arízaga, who is leading an Ecuadorian delegation on a working visit to Croatia. This is the first visit by a high-ranking Ecuadorian official since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1996.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the solid bilateral relations and discussed the strengthening of cooperation, notably in the area of economy, as well as the activities the two countries are undertaking in order to realize their foreign policy priorities. The interlocutors agreed that their countries’ energy potential, shipbuilding, high education, science, technology and tourism were just some of the prospective areas of cooperation.

On that occasion, Assistant Minister Dubravka Plejić Marković and Ecuadorian Ambassador to Croatia seated in Budapest Jaime Barbers signed a Memorandum of Agreement between the two ministries on the setting up of bilateral consultation mechanism. The Memorandum represents the basis for developing political dialogue and implementing concrete form of cooperation, and is also the first bilateral international document signed between Croatia and Ecuador. After the signing ceremony, bilateral consultations were held.
