First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusić, as an envoy of the Croatian President, met 10 March with the newly elected Chilean President Michelle Bachelet

First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusić, as an envoy of the Croatian President, met 10 March with the newly elected Chilean President Michelle Bachelet.

“We wish to continue cooperating with Croatia, as well as seek new areas for cooperation,” said Bachelet, who was also interested in Croatia's path to the EU and its experiences as a new member. Pusić emphasized Croatia’s intensive cooperation in the region, as it is in our interest that the countries in the region continue their progress towards European integration.

Pusić reminded Bachelet that they met on the fringes of the UN General Assembly in New York in 2012 and talked about women in Afghanistan. It is important that influential women around the world form an informal network so as to ensure that the issue of women and women's rights in Afghanistan remains a priority even after international forces leave that country, Pusić said. Unfortunately, women's rights is the issue that first falls off the list of international topics in crisis or conflict situations, she added, which is already happening in Afghanistan and other crisis points.

Bachelet said that women's rights was the key topic of international relations, underlining it was important to identify and find donors who would work on projects aimed at advancing women's rights, and expressing her support to the initiative for forming an informal women's network. Pusić, as the Croatian President’s envoy, also attended Bachelet’s inauguration for her first term of office in 2006.
