First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusić in Berlin participated in a discussion after the screening of “Twilight of Heroes – Croatia, Europe and the International Tribunal”. The film was produced by the European Stability Initiative, a non-profit research institute headquartered in Berlin.

The audience, composed mostly of NGO representatives and students, wanted to know how Croatia had managed to achieve the progress that had taken it to the doorstep of the European Union, as opposed to the rest of the region, and what had been the politicians’ role in that process. Pusić pointed out that the leadership’s role is to lead, not follow or give in to populism.

They also wanted to know how the Croatian public had reacted to the verdicts for generals Gotovina and Markač, and how they had influenced the relations in the region. Pusić replied that any verdict, regardless of its nature, would affect the relations.

Minister Pusić delivered an address about the ratification process of Croatia’s EU Accession Treaty and what still awaited us prior to full-fledged membership.
