Minister Pusić holds talks with Parliament Speaker Tsetska Tsacheva

After meeting with her host, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov, Pusić delivered a lecture on “Challenges for New EU Member States”, which among others was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva, with whom Pusić held a separate meeting, and former FM Solomon Passy.

Pusić and Kuneva agreed that Croatia and Bulgaria had many common interests and that we had to coordinate our positions within the EU mechanisms. The two countries also share the same views when it comes to migration, transport, Schengen, energy etc.

The Croatian deputy prime minister and foreign and European minister then met with Narodno Sabranie Speaker Tsetska Tsacheva, who underlined the frequent parliament-level exchange visits, which is yet another testament to the excellent Croatia-Bulgaria relations.

Speaking about common interests in the region, Pusić said that Croatia was to assume SEECP presidency from Bulgaria in July 2016, and would work until then with Bulgaria and Albania as a troika.

Both Pusić and Tsacheva underlined the need to finally open a direct air route, which is certainly justified given that two business forums have been organized within just one month.

Pusić stressed the importance of university language departments, saying that “when you spend a part of your education in a foreign country, you always come back, and that is important for the development of bilateral relations.” Tsacheva said it was important that countries in the region “spoke with one voice” about their interest and challenges, such as migration, and discussed the parliaments’ contribution to the strengthening of Croatia-Bulgaria relations. The two officials agreed that legislatives should be revised in order to facilitate doing business for Croatian companies in Bulgaria and vice versa.
