On the fringes of the meeting of the EU foreign ministers and the Arab League in Cairo, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić held a number of bilateral meetings with her counterparts.

She stressed that the meeting was the most important event in international relations at this moment, after a new coalition of the Syrian opposition has been formed ahead of a discussion of the status of Palestine within the United Nations.

"Croatia is included in the talks on Syria and is prepared to help stabilize Syria, prevent bloodshed and help civilians," Pusić said, adding that that was an opportunity for us to hold talks on numerous practical issues.

The talks with Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans focused on the ratification of Croatia’s EU Accession Treaty.

Pusić also met with her French and British counterparts, Laurent Fabius and William Hague. Their talks focused on the position towards the South Mediterranean and Syria, and the ways to assist and support the new Syrian coalition.

With Foreign Minister of the Palestinian National Authority Riyad al-Malki Pusić discussed the stabilization of the Middle East and the recent developments in that area.

She also held talks with Qatari Foreign Minister Khalid Bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah regarding the visit by Croatian delegation to Qatar.

"This was an opportunity to agree with the Qatari minister to secure support for some Croatian companies that used to do business in Qatar and which did quality work but were faced with some other problems," Pusić said. "I believe we have achieved an exceptionally high level of understanding with our Qatari colleagues and there is a possibility for cooperation in large infrastructure and energy projects, international development assistance, science, education and culture," the minister said.

Pusić also met with her Tunisian counterpart Rafik Abdessalem, as Croatia is participating in the Working Group on Tunisia and there is a possibility of the two countries’ developing bilateral cooperation.

Wrapping up her bilateral meetings, Pusić held talks with Saad-Eddine El Othmani, the Foreign Minister of Morocco, a country with which we have signed an agreement on bilateral cooperation entailing a number of topics from high education to agriculture. Most of the cooperation, Pusić said, will unfold through the Centre of Excellence, while the rest will involve direct linking between institutions and companies, who will then do their work by themselves.
