First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić extending condolences on hers and the behalf of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs to her British colleague William Hague over the death of former prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

“Baroness Margaret Thatcher was a strong advocate of Croatia's right to self-determination and a trusted friend of Croatia, and we regret that she will not be there to see us join the European Union,” reads the note of condolence.

Pusić said Thatcher was dedicated to encouraging changes in the world, which eventually led to the fall of the Iron Curtain, and made significant contribution to the promotion of democracy and respect for human rights. “As the longest-serving British prime minister and the first woman to run the government of a Western power, she proved herself a big patriot in Britain's modern political history,” Pusić said in the note.
