Minister Pusić discusses Croatia's EU entry talks with Moldovan PM

First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusić held talks with Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, who thanked for her remarks during the meeting of the Friends of Moldova Group as well as her visit to Kishinev.

Pusić talked about the reforms Croatia had implemented, notably in the area of justice, given that Croatia was the first country with a special negotiating chapter on justice. “Things can’t change overnight, but it is important to implement a system that will bring about a new generation, and that means progress criteria within the justice system.”

Leanca was interested in how Croatia had conducted reforms, as Moldova was working on them. He was convinced Moldova would continue along that path as it had made visible progress in the previous four years. He said there was practically no town or village in Moldova in which an infrastructural objects has not been reconstructed or built.

Croatia and Moldova have already signed an agreement on European eartnership, while MFEA is assisting through the Centre of Excellence as well. Pusicć and Leanca also discussed the developments in Ukraine and relations with the Russian Federation and the effects of Russian sanctions on Moldova's economy.

Pusić also attended a working lunch organized by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman. Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean, who chaired the Friends of Moldova Group meeting, said that the EU supported the democratisation and European path of Moldova as well as the implementation of the AA/DCFTA agreements. He added that the EU expected further reforms as well as fair and transparent November parliamentary election.
