Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić began her official visit to Colombia by holding talks with Senator and Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Jimmy Chamorro.

Senator Chamorro acquainted the Croatian minister with his country's foreign policy priorities as well as the political situation in Colombia and its negotiations with the guerrilla organization Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – People’s Army (FARC), hopeful that an agreement would be reached by years end, stressing that the Colombian government was fully supporting the peace process.

Pusić said that, given its recent history, Croatia understood the state of affairs in Colombia, as well as the challenges of the peace process and post-conflict state building. “Some of our experiences may be useful to Colombia,” she said, adding that mine clearance was crucial not only for safety but for the economic development of mine-littered areas too.

Despite the geographical distance, Croatia and Colombia share a lot of interests and areas of cooperation, Pusić underscored.

She also expressed belief that Colombia would ratify the Protocol of the EU-Colombia Free Trade Agreement by year’s end.
