Minister Pusić and Hungarian FM Martonyi discuss joint post-accession projects

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić 25 April met with Hungarian Foreign Minister János Martonyi, who was on an official visit to Croatia

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić 25 April met with Hungarian Foreign Minister János Martonyi, who was on an official visit to Croatia. The two ministers discussed a series of topics, including trans-European transport and energy networks.

Asked about the relations between INA and MOL, Martonyi said it was not mentioned at today’s talks. “It is in the interest of both countries that INA becomes a successful regional profitable company,” he said.

“We would like to acknowledge everything Croatia has achieved, all the hard work it has put into attaining the goal all of us are waiting for – that on 1 July it becomes the 28th EU member,” the Hungarian minister said.

Pusić thanked for Hungary’s support during the accession process. “Hungary was among the first EU members to ratify the Croatia-EU accession treaty. Our Hungarian colleagues have been assisting us along the way on all levels. I would like to take this opportunity to once again express our gratitude,” she said. The Hungarian minister said Croatia’s EU entry was of great importance to his country too, as it would “strengthen the Central European dimension, and advance the cooperation in culture and energy.”

The two ministers also talked about the region’s European integration. “Hungary and Croatia support SEE countries’ path through reforms towards full-fledged EU membership,” Pusić said, adding that both countries saw the Serbia-Kosovo agreement as a step forward in the stabilization of the region as well as a possibility of opening the EU talks and signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement respectively.

Martonyi presented a note to Pusić on the reopening of a Hungarian consulate-general in Osijek and announced the establishment of a Hungarian cultural institute in Zagreb.
