On 26 August 2003, Mr. Tonino Picula, the Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs, received Mr. Giulio Einaudi, Apostolic Nuncio, to a farewell visit. In a cordial and friendly talks, the interlocutors resumed the past eleven years, by exchanging words of commendation for a long-term cooperation between the Republic of Croatia and the Holy See.

The Minister expressed his satisfaction that the Holy See and Mr. Einaudi, as a doyen of diplomatic corps, gave strong support to the Croatian approaching to European integration. Minister notably emphasised the third apostolic voyage of the Pope John Paul II to the Republic of Croatia and its significance for the Republic of Croatia and the Croatian people.

Mr. Einaudi commended Croatia's successful path to democracy, by reminding that the Holy Father, as a spiritual authority, emphasised, on several occasions during his last visit to the Republic of Croatia, that Croatia belongs to Europe.
