Minister Jandroković to relieve of duty Honorary Consul to Switzerland Bernasconi for harming Croatia’s image in the world

We would further like to point out that honorary consuls differ from career and vocational consuls in that they usually are citizens of the recipient country. They pay rent for their workspace themselves and receive no payment for their work from Croatia, as is the common practice for all honorary consuls. Due to his limited authority, a honorary consul has no diplomatic immunity, nor the authority of ambassadors and career or vocational consuls. Therefore, honorary consuls do not conduct administrative and legal matters (eg. issuing visas), their activities revolve primarily around enhancing economic cooperation, promoting trade, cultural cooperation, and only in exceptional cases providing assistance to the citizens of the country they represent.

We would like to point out that so far none honorary consuls have been appointed during Minister Jandroković’s mandate, precisely due to his request for a detailed check of all candidates.
