Minister Jandroković received Canada’s parliamentary delegation and Chief of Defence Staff, General Hillier

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandroković received 25 April 2008 to separate visits Canada’s parliamentary delegation, led by Speaker of the House of Commons Peter Milliken, and Chief of the Defence Staff, General Rick Hillier

Minister Jandroković talked with Speaker Milliken and the Canadian MPs about Croatia’s NATO accession in light of the membership invitation. The Canadian side confirmed the importance of Croatia’s joining NATO and announced its engagement in a speedy ratification of the protocol of Croatia’s NATO accession in the Canadian Parliament.

Apart from the House of Commons’ Speaker Milliken, the Canadian parliamentary delegation was also comprised of deputy minister-level ruling party’s parliamentary secretaries Ed Komarnicki and Dave MacKenzie, as well as opposition MPs Lui Temelkovski and Robert Vincent.

The meeting with Chief of the Defence Staff, General Hillier, focused on the two countries’ very good bilateral relations, as well as on the possibility of considerably deepening the political, economic, and military co-operation.

General Hillier, well-versed in the region and former commander of the Croatian armed forces in Afghanistan, expressed his personal sympathies for Croatia.

Both Canadian delegations commended Croatia’s role as the region’s leader.
