The collocutors expressed their satisfaction with the very good bilateral relations between the two countries, pointing out that the fields of potential cooperation in the interest of both sides are numerous, in particular in the context of the upcoming Spanish presidency over the European Union. Minister Moratinos expressed his strong belief that Croatia’s negotiation process will be completed during the Spanish presidency, which commences 1 January 2010. He stressed that he would do everything in his power to achieve this goal, and would visit the Republic of Croatia before New Year as a part of the preparations for presidency. Talking about the region of South Eastern Europe, he pointed out that he appreciated the part Croatia had played in stabilising the situation in the area.

Minister Jandroković thanked minister Moratinos for the continued support provided by the Kingdom of Spain to the Republic of Croatia on its path towards full membership in the European Union. He informed his Spanish colleague Moratinos of the current situation and the planned continuation of negotiations which were recently unblocked by the Republic of Slovenia. The ministers also discussed the potential exchange of experiences on Spain’s accession to the European Union.

Minister Jandroković supported all activities of the Alliance of Civilizations in which the Kingdom of Spain plays a leading role along with the Republic of Turkey, and stressed the active involvement of the Republic of Croatia. The Union for the Mediterranean was also discussed.
