Minister Jandroković held bilateral meeting with Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Ángel Moratinos Cuyaubé

The two ministers talked about the state of bilateral relations and the possibilities of their further enhancement

After meeting with Senate Speaker Francisco Javier Rojo García, Minister Jandroković held a bilateral meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Minister Miguel Ángel Moratinos Cuyaubé.

The two ministers talked about the state of bilateral relations and the possibilities of their further enhancement.

Discussing economy, it was pointed out that the trade between the two countries is constantly on the rise, but that there are areas where co-operation could be intensified. The two ministers, therefore, especially considered the possibilities of co-operation in tourism, shipbuilding, agriculture, and energy. Minister Jandroković said that Croatia is interested in receiving Spain’s knowledge and experience in tourism development, investment in Croatia’s tourist infrastructure, co-operation in food industry and shipbuilding, as well as in the electrical energy production.

Minister Jandroković expounded the course of Croatia’s Euro-Atlantic integration accession and presented the goals for the completion of these processes. Spain’s experience would be useful for Croatia in that context, said Minister Jandroković. Minister Moratinos expressed Spain’s support for Croatia’s EU accession, adding he expects a soon ratification of the Protocol on NATO Enlargement to Croatia by the Spanish Parliament. He also reiterated the invitation for a single Croatian diplomat to join the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and keep constant contact as regards the activities of Croatia’s EU accession, as well as continue his work during the Spanish presidency as a special contact person.

The two ministers also reviewed the current state of affairs in South Eastern Europe, as well as the possibility of further strengthening the co-operation among the Mediterranean countries, for which there is a mutual interest.
