Minister Grlić Radman welcomes participants of 25th EDP edition
Organized by the European External Action Service, the General Secretariat of the EU Council, and the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MVEP), the Republic of Croatia hosted three participants of the 25th edition of the European Diplomatic Programme (EDP) on February 13-14, 2025.
Since 1999, the European Diplomatic Programme has brought together young diplomats and professionals undergoing diplomatic training from the foreign ministries of EU member states. The programme includes conferences and training sessions aimed at fostering discussions on current foreign policy issues while also promoting networking among young diplomats and strengthening the EU's collective spirit.
The EDP spans the entire academic year and is structured into four modules, each held in different EU member states. The second module is traditionally organized in all participating countries, with groups of up to three participants visiting each host country. A tailored program is designed to provide a comprehensive insight into the host nation.
This year, young diplomats from the Federal Republic of Germany, the Kingdom of Denmark, and a representative from the European Commission visited Croatia and its capital, Zagreb.
On the first day of the seminar, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman and Director of the Diplomatic Academy Karlo Kolesar welcomed the participants. Lectures were delivered by Associate Professor Ivica Miškulin and Ambassador Vladimir Matek on the topics of Croatian history and the history of Croatian diplomacy. Subsequent presentations included Acting Director-General for Europe Terezija Gras, who spoke about Croatia’s EU accession experiences, and Director-General for Southeast Europe Stribor Kikerec, who provided an assessment of the political and security situation in the region.
The first day concluded with presentations by Director-General for Multilateral and Global Affairs Sebastian Rogač on Croatia’s perspectives and positioning regarding global challenges, as well as by Rina Eterović Goreta, the coordinator for Croatia’s accession to the OECD, who discussed the accession process. In collaboration with the Zagreb Tourist Board, a guided tour of the city was also organized for the participants.
On the second day, the Ministry of the Interior hosted a series of lectures for the participants. Speakers included Dražen Horvat, Deputy Head of the Service for Neighbouring Countries, Border Directorate; Dejan Dretar, Head of the Organized Crime Department, Criminal Police Directorate; Krešimir Mamić, Head of the Counterterrorism Service, Criminal Police Directorate; and Jurica Dugandžić from the Directorate for Immigration, Citizenship, and Administrative Affairs.
The visit to Croatia concluded with a meeting with Dr. Sandra Knezović from the Institute for Development and International Relations.
