Minister Grlić Radman visits Little School of Croatian Language and Culture in Novi Vinodolski
The Little School is being held 17-28 July 2023 at the Red Cross Resort in Novi Vinodolski. The curriculum, organized by the Croatian Heritage Foundation, entails learning the Croatian language, history and culture, as well as a number of workshops. This one-of-a-kind programme has had a continuous run since 1993 and has been attended by more than 1700 children from 41 countries to date. This year’s Little School was attended by 90 children from 14 European and overseas countries.
“By learning the language and getting to know the culture, young Croats have the opportunity to preserve their identity and build a strong connection with the homeland. Croatia will continue to care even more intensively for the Croatian national minority wherever they are. Our emigrants are ambassadors of Croatian culture and identity, and their commitment to preserving the Croatian culture, language and tradition, and passing it on to next generations, deserves special recognition. The government recognises the importance of supporting Croats abroad with the aim of improving their position and quality of life, and nurturing the Croatian identity and connection with Croatia. Since 2016, it has set aside around €340 million for various projects,” Grlić Radman said.
This year’s Little School, for the third straight year, was also attended by children from Janjevo at the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. The programme was again realised in cooperation with the Central State Office for Croats Outside Croatia, the Croatian Heritage Foundation, and the Croatian Red Cross. The goal of the project is to support the Croat community in Janjevo and addresses in particular the preservation of culture, language and overall Croatian identity in the locale.
