Minister Grlić Radman participates in video conference on relaunching tourism, EU travel

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Thursday participated in a video conference of 11 EU foreign ministers on relaunching tourist activities and modes of travel within the Union

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Thursday participated in a video conference of 11 EU foreign ministers on relaunching tourist activities and modes of travel within the Union, held at the initiative of German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas. 

Given the economic importance of tourism, the ministers agreed it was necessary to reestablish freedom of movement, but in a way that would not lead to an increase of COVID-19 cases in the country of origin, transit or destination. They also discussed the deadlines and conditions of lifting restrictions as well as measures for safe travel and accommodation. 

Grlić Radman familiarized his counterparts with the situation in Croatia and presented the online application for entering the country. He recalled that Croatia had opened its border for 10 EU member states, whose citizens can freely travel to Croatia, adding that the decision regarding other countries would depend on their epidemiological situation and the Commission’s recommendations. 

In addition, the minister underscored satisfaction with the epidemiological situation in the neighbouring countries, which should be taken into account when deciding on opening EU borders for third countries.
