Minister of Foreign and European Affairs on Friday participated in an informal virtual meeting on global climate diplomacy ahead of the COP26 session. The meeting was held at the initiative of Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod and saw the participation of US climate envoy John Kerry.

Addressing the event, Grlić Radman underlined that the effects and the economic impact of climate change were felt on both sides of the Atlantic, stressing that climate was an area where the EU and the US should strengthen their joint leadership.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the US for their contribution to Europe’s energy diversification,” the minister said, adding that Croatia also gave its contribution by way of constructing an LNG terminal at the Island of Krk.

In addition, Grlić Radman underscored that the EU and the US, through the Green Deal and by utilizing the US’ vast innovation potential, could spearhead clean technologies, which would send a strong message to investors across the globe. He added that Croatia supported the idea of the Just Transition Global Summit, aimed at optimizing the exchange of experiences so that no one is left behind in the clean energy transition.
