Minister Grlić Radman participates in Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS Ministerial

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman participated on Monday, September 30, 2024, in Washington at the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh/ISIS. This year's meeting, which marked the tenth anniversary of the Coalition's establishment, gathered representatives from 87 countries and international organizations. During the meeting, participants had the opportunity to reflect on the progress made in stabilizing liberated territories. In addition to that, discussions were held on the future of the Coalition, in light of the growing threats that Daesh/ISIS continues to pose globally.
 
As stated during the ministerial meeting, although the Coalition was initially established to ensure the defeat of Daesh/ISIS in Syria and Iraq, its future actions will also focus on regions in sub-Saharan Africa and Central Asia. In the discussion on upcoming challenges, special emphasis was placed on the importance of implementing comprehensive counterterrorism efforts, which include all tools and mechanisms used by Coalition partners to prevent Daesh/ISIS members from traveling, financing activities, and further radicalization and recruitment.
 
In conclusion, along with the recent agreement between the U.S. and Iraq, the meeting also addressed the conclusion of Operation Inherent Resolve (Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve, CJTF-OIR) and the gradual withdrawal of Coalition military forces from Iraq by September 2025, or September 2026, during which forces would continue supporting Coalition activities in Syria from Iraq's territory.
