Croatia's Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman on Wednesday met with World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili, saying that Croatia was prepared to safely welcome tourists this summer and that a European COVID-19 certificate could be introduced in June.
Speaking to reporters after his meeting with the UNWTO official, Grlić Radman said that they discussed ways of opening borders more as well as the vaccination rates in individual member-countries.
The Croatian minister said he had informed Pololikashvili that 25% of the adult Croatian population had been vaccinated and that the rate was expected to climb to 55% by the end of June.
Ahead of the tourist season, Croatia has introduced the slogan "Safe Stay in Croatia".
"Croatia is ready because it takes care of epidemiological restrictions. Tourism workers have been vaccinated first because they are the first to come into contact with tourists, and with this Croatia has shown that it is responsible towards visitors' health. We care about our guests feeling safer," he added.
As for the introduction of an EU certificate proving that their holders have been vaccinated against COVID-19 or have tested negative, Grlić Radman said the certificate was expected to be introduced in June.
