Minister Grlić Radman holds talks with Brazilian counterpart Vieira
The ministers exchanged views on global issues of interest to both countries, cooperation between the EU and Brazil, the EU and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), as well as the situation in the Middle East, the Western Balkans, Ukraine and the region of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Brazil is the world’s eighth largest economy and the largest in Latin America, as well as a strategic partner of the EU, and is currently chairing the G20 group. It is one of Croatia’s most important trade partners in South America, where around 80,000 members of the Croatian diaspora live.
Grlić Radman and Vieira emphasized that there was room for strengthening the economic partnership and trade as well as investment. Given the common interest in consolidating international peace and security, Croatia’s experience as a NATO member state, and the growing potential of the Croatian military-industrial cluster, opportunities are there for boosting defence and security cooperation.
The ministers also exchanged opinions on Croatia and Brazil’s OECD accession process, stressing the importance of exchanging experiences. They underscored that OECD membership brings a stronger reputation, better security, and investments, as well as insight into the functioning of the world’s leading economies and an opportunity to participate in the best practices and policies of the world’s most influential countries.
During his visit to Brazil, Grlić Radman handed over 115 decisions on Croatian citizenship in Sao Paulo, underscoring the importance of connecting the homeland and Croatian expats.
“I would like to thank the individuals, associations and clubs who nurture ties with the homeland for their special dedication and exceptional contribution to the linguistic education of the descendants of the Croatian expat community, long-term successful publishing activity, promotion of Croatian heritage, language, culture, education, science and sports, strengthening of economic cooperation, as well as preservation of the Croatian identity in Brazil,” the minister said.
