Minister Grlić Radman: Croatia to continue supporting Bosnian Croat projects

Croatia's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman announced the continuation of financial support for Croat projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Croatia's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman announced the continuation of financial support for Croat projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina after visiting the University Clinical Hospital (SKB) and Croatian National Theatre (HNK) in the southern city of Mostar on Tuesday.

"The Croatian government will dedicate special attention to further financial support through the Central State Office for Croats Abroad so that we can maintain and finance the further construction of this theatre which is essential to preserving the Croatian identity in this city and elsewhere in Bosnia and Herzegovina," Grlić Radman told the media after meeting with HNK director Ivan Vukoja.

Grlić Radman explained that HNK's management wanted to complete the construction of the theatre because now they were literally performing in a basement. "Croats need to have their own national cultural institution," Grlić Radman added.

Vukoja underscored that HNK had achieved enviable results mainly due to the Croatian Government's support.

"Our goal is to make this a European theatre. We could not have gotten this far without Croatia's support, notably from the Central State Office for Croats Abroad," said Vukoja. He explained that HNK was an institution of exceptional importance as an "integral part of the Croatian culture", cherishing the specificities of Bosnia's Croats as a constituent nation.

Grlić Radman added that in talks with the director of the SKB Mostar, Dr. Ante Kvesić, they discussed the problems facing the hospital.

"That hospital is important not only for the Croats, but for all BiH citizens. Croatia is supporting its work both financially and professionally," the minister said.
