Minister Grlić Radman congratulates Statehood Day

Today we celebrate the day when three decades ago, on May 30th 1990, the first democratically-elected, multi-party Croatian Parliament was constituted, which for centuries has been the advocate and guardian of the Croatian state law. The Croatian citizens recognized this ceremonious act as a turning point on the path towards freedom, democracy and independence. The following year, the MPs proclaimed Croatia’s independence.

From May 1990 until May 1992, the Croatian diplomacy worked dedicatedly on achieving our country’s international recognition, formalized by joining the United Nations, and many years later on its global affirmation and Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as on joining international organizations. We have attained our most important foreign-policy goals, and this year we are presiding over the Council of the EU.

On the Statehood Day, we proudly and gratefully remember Croatian soldiers who stood up to defend our Homeland and built their sacrifice into our common future.

On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, I wish all the Croatian citizens at home and abroad happy May 30th - the Statehood Day!
