Minister Grlić Radman attends Paris Peace Forum, OECD meeting on international trade

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman was in Paris on Thursday and Friday for the fifth Paris Peace Forum and an OECD meeting on international trade and supply chains, at the invitation of OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann.

Addressing the OECD meeting, Grlić Radman underlined the importance of international cooperation and investing joint efforts in order to overcome the current geopolitical challenges, which he described as unprecedented and greatly affecting supply chains, resulting in a shortage of raw materials and contributing to inflation.

“Along with the WTO, the OECD is a key platform for creating policies and exchanging initiatives that shape the world economy. Especially important in that context are trade agreements, which contribute to job creation, innovation and prosperity. They not only significantly contribute to economic recovery but support broader goals, such as the green and digital transition and technological development,” he said.

The minister also attended the fifth Paris Peace Forum, a ministerial panel on energy security in the context of the green transition, the war in Ukraine and inflation. Addressing the event, he underscored that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine had proven that the green transition was crucial for boosting resilience. “The EU has to continue with the efforts to ensure energy security and resilience. I am confident that we have shown unity and the ability to act in times of crisis and we will continue to do so. The EU’s focus is currently on measures to mitigate high energy prices in order to protect citizens, the internal market, and key industries. Croatia is significantly contributing to and fully supports the current direction of the EU’s energy and climate policies,” Grlić Radman stressed, adding that crucial in said processes was to maintain and strengthen solidarity among the member states.

On the margins of the Paris Peace Forum, the minister held talks with Swiss President Ignazio Cassis.
