Minister Grlić Radman attends Indo-Pacific Ministerial Cooperation Forum

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Tuesday in Paris participated in a round table on security and defence as part of the Indo-Pacific Ministerial Cooperation Forum, organized by the French EU presidency.
 
The round table was attended by EU foreign ministers and several Indo-Pacific partners, and focused on maritime issues in the Indian Ocean and boosting maritime security.
 
“Croatia recognizes the Indo-Pacific as one of the most dynamic regions of today and is greatly interested in its security. As a maritime country, Croatia attaches special importance to the issues of maritime security and the freedom of navigation. That is why we strongly support the EU’s role as an efficient partner in ensuring maritime security, capable of tackling a variety of common challenges,” Grlić Radman said in his address. He underscored that by participating in Operation ATALANTA since 2009, Croatia actively contributes to the security of the Horn of Africa and northwest Indian Ocean.
 
“We have recognized maritime security and the Indo-Pacific as an important element in the ongoing debate on the Strategic Compass, and welcome the launch of the Coordinated Maritime Presences (CMP) in northwest Indian Ocean. This concept has proven to be effective and useful, and I’m sure it will greatly contribute to the security in the Indo-Pacific,” he added.
 
The minister concluded his address by pointing out that strengthening relations with the Indo-Pacific, notably with those countries that share the EU’s interests and values, was one of the ways to boost common security in a number of areas – from dealing with hybrid threats to reducing strategic dependence and standardizing digital technologies.
