Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Tuesday addressed the Presidency of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR).

Underscoring the importance of regional and local governments, the minister highlighted cooperation between the Croatian Presidency and the CoR, including areas such as demographic challenges in the EU and challenges of local democracy in the Western Balkans.

In addition, Grlić Radman informed the CoR about Croatia’s efforts to adapt the Council of the EU presidency to the new conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. “In spite of everything, Croatia has ensured timely agreements on a number of legal acts relating to a more flexible use of EU funds, simplified procurement and production of medical equipment and free flow of goods over the borders,” he said, emphasizing that we needed to boost solidarity and unity in the EU.

Conclusively, the minister underlined the importance of the Multiannual Financial Framework and the Recovery Fund, whose means and measures should lead to more resilient economies in the post-pandemic period. He also highlighted the Conference on the Future of Europe as a framework for dialogue among the member states, institutions and citizens.
