Minister Grabar-Kitarović received to farewell visit former SMN Ambassador Milan Simurdić

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović received on Tuesday, 13 December 2005, to a farewell visit the former Ambassador of Serbia and Montenegro to the Republic of Croatia, Milan Simurdić

Minister Grabar-Kitarović thanked Ambassador Simurdić for his significant personal contribution to the development of the bilateral relations, saying that the relations between Croatia and SMN are the backbone of the relations in the region and pointing out their future European perspective.

Ambassador Simurdić agreed that a significant progress has been made in the relations between the two countries and thanked for the constructiveness. Reiterating his satisfaction with the results, he stated his belief in both countries’ having a Euro-Atlantic perspective, and described Croatia as the catalyst of integration processes in the region. He mentioned the importance of the minorities’ position and the signed agreement on their protection, concluding that the political elites in both countries have sincerely dedicated themselves to its implementation.

Ambassador Simurdić positively judged the level and dynamics of the bilateral visits, pointing out that only in the last few weeks meetings were held between the Croatian and Serbian prime ministers, their foreign ministers, and today in Zagreb a meeting will be held between Croatian President Stjepan Mesić and SMN President Svetozar Marović, expressing his hope for this practice to continue.
