Minister Grabar-Kitarović met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia Nikola Gruevski

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia Nikola Gruevski in Skopje on Tuesday, 23 January 2007, during her official visit to the Republic of Macedonia

Both Ministers confirmed the quality of co-operation between their countries, with no open issues and with mutual support in the questions of foreign relationships, which is also reflected in the dynamics of bilateral meetings. The two countries have equal goals concerning Euro Atlantic integration, with EU and NATO membership as priorities, and endorse the principle of individual accession paths, in accordance with individual achievements and the implementation of necessary reforms, which is the preparation for EU membership.

The Ministers have expressed their mutual desire to maintain the collaboration within the process of EU accession, on the basis of the Agreement between the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Macedonia on co-operation in accessing the EU. The Ministers commented on the collaboration based on the American-Adriatic Charter, and expressed desire to continue with the fruitful collaboration, with the aim to create necessary conditions for full NATO membership.

Minister Grabar-Kitarović and Prime Minister Gruevski exchanged opinions on the most recent issues in South-East Europe, and Minister Grabar-Kitarović talked chiefly about the current Croatian SEECP presidency (South-East European Cooperation Process), with SEECP as an important framework for political co-operation, promotion of pro-European orientation and improvement in institutional relationships with the European Union.

During the conversation, the Croatian and the Macedonian side expressed their desire for a more intense economic collaboration between the two countries. Furthermore, the Ministers talked about the position of Croats in the Republic of Macedonia and Minister Grabar-Kitarović informed the Macedonian Prime Minister on the start of the process for signing of the bilateral Agreement on Protecting the Rights of Croatian and Macedonian Minorities.
