Minister Grabar-Kitarović met with Montenegrin Foreign Minister Miodrag Vlahović

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović met yesterday, 21 September 2005 in New York, with the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Montenegro, Miodrag Vlahović

Minister Grabar-Kitarović described the relations between Croatia and Montenegro as good and heading in the right direction. She expressed her satisfaction with Montenegro’s war damages paid to the area of Konavle for livestock killed during the Croatian War for Independence and announced the pending visit by Croatian officials to Montenegro.

During the talk about the current situation in Serbia and Montenegro, Minister Grabar-Kitarović pointed out that Croatia will support any solution by agreement regarding the future of that state union, following the guidelines of the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy.

Minister Vlahović expressed his wish for the continuation of the reconciliation policy between the two countries, as good neighbourly relations are one of the Montenegrin Government’s priorities. He pointed out that Montenegro openly supports the pre-accession negotiations between Croatia and the EU, as well as the individual approach to judging each country.

Minister Grabar-Kitarović thanked him for the support, saying that Croatia is willing to offer technical assistance to Montenegro in its process of approaching the EU.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Grabar-Kitarović concluded that the two countries can be constructive partners in the setting up of peace and security in South Eastern Europe.
