Minister Grabar-Kitarović met at Crans Montana Forum with Fiegel and Barbaso

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović met today, 14 April 2005, at the margins of the Crans Montana Forum in Zagreb, with Jan Fiegel, the EU Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Multilingualism, and Fabrizio Barbaso, European Commission’s acting Director General for Enlargement

Minister Grabar-Kitarović talked with them about Croatia’s preparations for the EU negotiations, and both sides expressed their satisfaction with the technical preparations carried out so far. They also mentioned the progress of the region as a whole towards the EU, as well as the importance of regional co-operation.

As a part of the Crans Montana Forum in Zagreb, Minister Grabar-Kitarović pointed out the plenary session entitled “The Future of Transatlantic Relations - EU, NATO and Collective Security” that the future of SE Europe greatly depends upon the enlargement process of the North Atlantic Alliance. As its future member, the Republic of Croatia will put forth its maximum effort in contribute to the stability and safety of NATO’s south eastern wing. The minister pointed out that stability and safety are the prerequisites for the development of economy, and that the NATO membership perspective motivates the countries to carry out painful but necessary reforms.
