Minister Jandroković expressed satisfaction with Minister Espinosa’s official visit, since this is Mexico’s first minister-level visit to Croatia since the establishment of diplomatic relations and Croatia’s independence.

The two collocutors agreed that the bilateral relations are good and devoid of outstanding issues, with a potential for their further intensification. To that end, Minister Jandroković and Minister Espinosa signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States on Political Consultations, and exchanged diplomatic notes on the Agreement of Visa Cancellation for Holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports.

Said Agreement, a result of the two countries good political co-operation, will facilitate the exchange of official- and diplomatic-level meetings. Minister Jandroković and Minister Espinosa also discussed a possible liberalisation of the visa regime for holders of regular passports.

These documents, the ministers agreed, provide a good foundation for enhancing the dialogue between the two countries on a bi- and multilateral level, and contribute significantly to the development of the overall relations between Croatia and Mexico.

Regarding the economic co-operation, Minister Jandroković pointed out that Croatia is interested in developing stronger economic relations with Mexico, especially in shipbuilding, and using the ports of Rijeka and Ploče. Minister Espinosa pointed out environmental protection as one of the Mexican Government’s priorities. In that regard, the ministers agreed that co-operation in preventing climate changes and environmental protection could be an area of common interest.

Talking about Croatia’s foreign-policy priorities, Minister Jandroković informed Minister Espinosa about the course of Croatia’s EU membership negotiations, the current state of affairs, and the goals set. Minister Espinosa congratulated Croatia on the extraordinary progress it has achieved on its way towards the Union’s membership.

Conclusively, the two ministers expressed belief in the continuation of the good co-operation between the Republic of Croatia and United Mexican States within the UN Security Council.
