As this year’s SEECP presiding country, Moldova organized a series of meetings to evaluate the results achieved as part of SEECP cooperation, pertaining primarily to the strengthening of security and political cooperation, the intensification of economic relations, and the cooperation in democratic processes, justice, and combat against illegal activities.

Speaking about the global economic and financial crisis, Minister Jandroković pointed out the strategic importance of regional cooperation, adding that solutions can be found in the multilateral mechanisms such as SEECP, as well as through cooperation and solidarity among the countries. He said that SEECP is successfully fulfilling its mission, contributing to the region’s transformation into a space of progress and stability, and creating basis for a strong cooperation founded on good-neighbourly relations.

Minister Jandroković noted that, by acceding to NATO membership, Croatia is now an active subject in matters of international security, and as such is contributing to global peace and security together with its NATO partners. At the same time, Croatia supports the Euro-Atlantic perspective of the region’s countries, and is willing to share its experience and knowledge about the process. In that regard, Croatia will offer countries in the region concrete projects of special importance for the harmonization with the EU standards in agriculture and justice, added Minister Jandroković.

Conclusively, Minister Jandroković called for the strengthening of economic cooperation, active participation, and exchange of information and experience among SEECP participants, with the aim of solidifying the stability of South Eastern Europe.

This year’s meetings of SEECP countries’ representatives were held with a political intention of enabling them, through the strengthening of good-neighbourly relation and transformation of the region in a stable and peaceful space, to further approach the European and Euro-Atlantic structures. It was concluded that the regional dialogue taking place at SEECP meetings has enhanced its participants’ bilateral relations as well.

The meetings of political directors and foreign ministers finalized the text of the Final Declaration and the Joint Statement by SEECP presidents and prime ministers, to be adopted at the final summit on June 5th 2009.
