Minister Gordan Jandroković met with EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle

Minister Jandroković thanked Commissioner Füle for his personal engagement in the final stages of Croatia’s accession negotiations

Minister Jandroković thanked Commissioner Füle for his personal engagement in the final stages of Croatia’s accession negotiations, expressing satisfaction over this year’s Croatia Progress Report, which has unequivocally confirmed Croatia’s past achievements and noted progress in all segments of the Croatian society, as well as in all of the negotiation chapters. The Report is realistic, said the minister, and objectively describes the situation in Croatia and the perspective of its negotiations.

Pointing out that Croatia had entered the final phase of the negotiations, Minister Jandroković expressed conviction in their closing in the first half of the following year, during Hungary’s EU presidency.

In that regard, he emphasized that Croatia was fully dedicated to fulfilling the rest of the obligations, especially those concerning justice and public administration reform, combating corruption and restructuring the shipbuilding sector. Our goal, added the minister, is for Croatia to be fully ready for the EU membership at the moment of closing the negotiations and signing the Accession Treaty.

Commissioner Füle expressed satisfaction in his press statement over continuing the talks with his colleague Minister Jandroković just two weeks after the publishing of the European Commission’s positive Report. He confirmed that Croatia’s negotiations were in its final stage and pointed out that the European Commission, having acknowledged Croatia’s ambitions, was ready to all it takes to support Croatia in the realization of its goals.

Minister Jandroković and Commissioner Füle also discussed the situation in South Eastern Europe, emphasizing the importance of this year’s enlargement strategy, as well as progress reports on candidate countries and potential candidates. They agreed that the successful course of Croatia’s negotiations proved to all of the countries in the region that the EU membership was achievable. Minister Jandroković pointed out that Croatia was prepared to continue offering technical assistance and sharing its Euro-integration experiences with all of the region’s countries, considering their EU membership a guarantee of peace and stability in there areas. Commissioner Füle stressed the importance of Croatia’s participation in regional cooperation, which is growing more important as the region as a whole is drawing closer to the EU.
