The ministers expressed satisfaction over the excellent and partnership relations between Croatia and Canada, further intensified in the recent years by numerous high-level visits and meetings, including the visit by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper in May this year.

Minister Jandroković thanked Canada for continuously supporting Croatia and informed his Canadian counterpart about the current status of Croatia’s EU negotiations, pointing out that Croatia’s goal was to close the negotiations in the first half of the following year, during Hungary’s EU presidency, and then sign the Accession Treaty.

The ministers expressed satisfaction over the successful multilateral cooperation between Croatia and Canada, especially within NATO. They also exchanged opinions about NATO’s new Strategic Concept, describing it as an important document in defining political and security issues, as well as the Alliance’s future activities.

Ministers Jandroković and Cannon also discussed the economic cooperation, expressing satisfaction that Croatia had become Canada’s main trade partner in South Eastern Europe. They recalled the recent meeting between the two countries’ businessmen in Zagreb as part of the seminar on doing business with Canada, while reciprocal visits by economic delegations are to continue the next year as well.

The ministers also talked about the situation in South Eastern Europe, expressing support for the open door policy and the Euro-Atlantic perspective of all of the countries in the region who met the required criteria, considering it the guarantee of peace and stability in the area.
