Minister Gordan Jandroković led Croatian delegation at session of Intergovernmental Conference on Croatia’s EU Accession in Luxembourg

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandroković led the Croatian delegation at the session of the Intergovernmental Conference on the Accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union, held 17 June 2008 in Luxembourg

The session opened the negotiations in two chapters: Freedom of Movement for Workers (Chapter 2), and Employment and Social Policy (Chapter 19).

These two chapters make a total of 20 chapters Croatia has opened so far, of which 2 are temporarily closed.

Thanking the Slovenian EU Presidency for its contribution to Croatia’s negotiations, Minister Jandroković expressed satisfaction with the new negotiation dynamic. He pointed out that Croatia’s goal is to open the remaining chapters by end-2008, and close many of them as well.

In that regard, Minister Jandroković said Croatia the continuation of the European Commission and EU members’ support, with the obligatory implementation of the reforms on Croatia’s part. He expressed his conviction that Croatia can achieve the necessary speed, as well as the quality of negotiations, and expects to accomplish significant progress during the French Presidency.

Taking part in the session along with Minister Jandroković were Chief Negotiator Vladimir Drobnjak, State Secretary for European Integration Željko Kuprešak, Head of the Croatian Mission to the European Communities Branko Baričević, and experts from the Negotiating Team.
