Minister Jandroković outlined Croatia’s main foreign-policy goals, from the imminent EU membership, strengthening cooperation within NATO, achieving political and security stability in South Eastern Europe, active participation in international organizations, developing partnership relations with world powers, strengthening the economic diplomacy, and protecting the Croats aboard, to the continuous adaptation of Croatia’s foreign affairs service.

Talking about the current status of Croatia’s EU negotiations, Minister Jandroković expressed conviction that Croatia would complete the technical part of the negotiations this year. He pointed out that had opened 28 negotiation chapters overall and that the EU had passed several key decisions proving that Croatia had entered the final phase of the negotiations. The European Commission has published the most positive Progress Report so far, a financial package has been approved, allotting €3.5 million worth of means for Croatia’s first two years of membership, and an ad-hoc Working Group for the Drafting of Croatia’s Accession Treaty has been founded. Talking about the further strengthening of the cooperation within NATO, Minister Jandroković said that its membership ensures Croatia peace, security and stability, and facilitates partnerships and alliances aimed at the realization of national interests. Additionally, Croatia takes part together with the other NATO members in making decisions on all of the key global security issues.

Minister Jandroković also remarked that Croatia, as a leader and model country in the region, advocates further strengthening of the relations with the neighbours, as well as active contribution to the regional cooperation, along with fully supporting the integration of the countries of South Eastern Europe into the EU and NATO.

On the international stage, Croatia’s goal is to strengthen the cooperation with the strategic partners in Europe and the rest of the world – the US, Canada, Russia, China, India or the Gulf countries, for instance, as well as to strengthen Croatia’s role in the international community, which includes continued active engagement in international organizations, contributions to solving global challenges, and active participation in the international peacekeeping missions led by the UN, NATO and the EU.

Another important foreign-policy goal, said Minister Jandroković, is the strengthening of the economic diplomacy, announcing the further rationalization, professionalization and modification of the foreign service in accordance with Croatia’s foreign-policy position and priorities.
