Minister Gordan Jandroković attended conference of WHO Collaborating Center for Capacity Building in HIV/AIDS Surveillance

In his speech to the present parties, Minister Jandroković said he believed today’s conference would greatly contribute to the promotion of Croatia as a county who is taking an ever more active part in projects of development assistance and cooperation. He pointed out that development assistance and cooperation have become elemental parts of Croatia’s foreign policy, and are being given ever more attention and importance.

In regard to the conference’s thematic content, he said that, despite the troubling figures regarding the AIDS victims, that number has started to decrease in the past two years, thanks to the great effort put forth in surveying and preventing this world-wide epidemic.

Stressing the importance of the activities that the Andrija Štampar School of Public Health is undertaking in Croatia, Minister Jandroković reminded that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration had been cooperating with the WHO Collaborating Center since 2007, adding that the Ministry’s further support and assistance would unfold through a close coordination with the other relevant ministries and state administration bodies taking part in the implementation of Croatia’s development policy.

Today’s conference was co-organized by the Andrija Štampar School of Public Health, WHO, UNDP, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. It presented to Croatia’s businessmen and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Croatia the activities of the Collaboration Center and announced the founding of a scholarship fund for public heath experts from the underdeveloped countries. The Center is offering education in the field of epidemiological HIV/AIDS surveillance, as well as technical assistance to countries of Eastern Europe, Africa and the Near East, to which HIV presents a significant health and economic problem.
