MFAEI press release on the recent developments regarding the detention of SMN general Braknović

The Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration reports that the chargé d’affaires at the Croatian embassy to Sofia had a meeting at the Bulgarian MFA on the recent developments regarding SMN general Čedomir Branković’s detention in Bulgaria

According to the Croatian diplomat’s information, the Bulgarian MFA considers that gen. Branković does not have a diplomatic immunity, because he was a member of the Serbian delegation to Bulgaria, although the Sofia city court reached a decision about his release.

Bulgaria’s state prosecutor’s office filed a complaint against the decision to release gen. Branković, which will be put under consideration 3 May 2005.

The Croatian Justice Ministry filed a request to the Bulgarian Justice Ministry for a temporary arrest of gen. Branković pending extradition, based on the European Convention on Extradition, signed by Croatia and Bulgaria. The Bulgarian MFA was also informed about this request through diplomatic channels.
