MFAEI pleased to report that early morning hours saw release of two Croatian, one Montenegrin citizen

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration is pleased to report that the early morning hours of 12 March 2007 saw the release of the two Croatian and one Montenegrin citizen that were working for the Hydrodive company on maintaining the oil platforms in the Niger Delta. They were held hostage since 18 February 2007 by a criminal group demanding a high ransom

The released men are feeling well. After routine medical exams, they will return to their families on the first flight possible.

The MFAEI has kept daily and direct contact with the families of the kidnapped, informing them about the development of the events and the condition of the men, to the extent to which the kidnappers were ready to communicate. In agreement with the Montenegrin Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Croatian MFAEI has fully assumed the concern over the Montenegrin citizen.

Directly from Zagreb and intensely through the Croatian Embassy in London, the MFAEI has kept regular communication with the Nigerian authorities and would like to take this opportunity to thank them for the successful release operation.

The MFAEI would also like to thank for the help offered by the US and Austrian diplomacies. An important role in keeping the regular communication was also played by Hydrodive, which the kidnapped men were employees of.
