MFAEI and Croatian Government’s Office for Cooperation with NGOs organized presentation of projects financed from Europe for Citizens programme

Interim Director for Support to Croatia’s EU Accession Process Mirjam Katulić pointed out the importance of the role the civil society organizations play in the process of preparing for the EU membership

In her speech to the participants, interim Director for Support to Croatia’s EU Accession Process Mirjam Katulić pointed out the importance of the role the civil society organizations play in the process of preparing for the EU membership as well as after the accession, in order to best utilize the membership advantages. He emphasized in particular the partnership role of the civil society organizations in the process of informing and educating the Croatian citizens about the Euro-integration process.

The Europe for Citizens programme has been launched with the aim of offering the citizens an opportunity to interact and participate in the creation of a closer Europe, strengthening the European identity, and solidifying trust and mutual respect among the citizens of Europe. The programme is designed for the civil society organizations and units of local government and self-government, and Croatia joined it in 2007. In the two years of participation, more than 20 projects have been financed, exceeding € 600,000.

On this occasion, the following projects financed through the Europe for Citizens were presented: Emigration – Yesterday and Today, whose bearer is the City of Rijeka, Attention! Creation of Local Community Youth Parliaments in Progress! and Through European Clubs’ Extracurricular Activities to a Better Europe, conducted by the European House Slavonski Brod, Neighbours Exchanging Good Practice, Developing New Ideas and Partnership, a project by the Zagreb Association for Persons with Cerebral Palsy and Polio, and Mnemozina: Theatre Recollections/Phase I: the Gathering by the Association for Interdisciplinary and Intercultural Research.

The attending representatives of the civil society organizations and local self-government were also delivered speeches by Igor Vidačak, Head of the Office for Cooperation with NGOs, David Hudson, advisor at the EU Delegation, and Hrvoje Dolenec, State Secretary at the Central Office for Development Strategy and Coordination of EU Funds.
