MFA - Press Releases

Continuing the process of the adoption of international legal instruments of the Council of Europe, Ambassador Neven Madey, permanent representative of the Republic of Croatia to this organisation, handed today to Mr. Walter Schwimmer, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, the ratification documents of two protocols, Protocol 12 and Protocol 13 to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, the most important legal instrument of the Council of Europe.

Protocol 12 to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms forbids any form of discrimination and guarantees that no one can be the object of any kind of discrimination by any public authority, regardless of the reason.

Protocol 13 to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms Concerning the Abolishment of Death Penalty in All Circumstances is of exceptional importance, as it provides the Council of Europe with a legal instrument abolishing death penalty even for crimes committed in war or during imminent threat of war.
