Marušić: Knowledge prerequisite for successful EU membership

Assistant Minister Hrvoje Marušić attended today at the Rectorate of the Rijeka University the presentation of an international conference titled “(New) Challenges for Europe in a Changing World/Knowledge – a Key Tool for a Better Europe”, to be held 20 and 12 October 2014 at the University of Rijeka campus.

Also participating in the conference will be First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić, Minister of Science, Education and Sports Vedran Mornar, Rijeka Mayor Vojko Obersnel, Head of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Zlatko Komadina, University of Rijeka Rector Pero Lučin, President of the Florence Institute of European Studies Joseph H. H. Weiler, as well as representatives of the academic community, diplomatic corps, businesses and civil society.

The conference will discuss new European topics and challenges, the future of European integration, as well as the general economic, financial, social and political context of European institutions. The aim is to come up with new programmes of life-long and specialist education within the European interdisciplinary studies at the University of Rijeka.

The conference is organized by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the University of Rijeka and the Centre for Advanced Studies of Southeast Europe under the auspices of Croatian President Ivo Josipović, the European Commission, European Parliament and numerous countries to be represented at the ambassadorial level. Assisting in its organization were Country Head Komadina and Mayor Obersnel.
