International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) holds plenary session

Assistant Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Batistić Kos led the Croatian delegation at a plenary session of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), held 15 May in London.

The IHRA consists of government and NGO representatives and aims to promote Holocaust education, remembrance and research, as well as provide political support in national and international contexts.  

With its active participation in the IHRA Croatia demonstrates its commitment to the Declaration of the Stockholm International Forum on the Holocaust as well as commitment to the implementation of national programmes that support education, remembrance and research of the Holocaust and other genocides.

The session discussed the issue of the safety of the Holocaust remembrance sites and expressed concern over the threats against Nataša Jovičić and other employees of the Public Institution Jasenovac Memorial Area. Batistić Kos said the Croatian authorities strongly condemned such acts and provided legal, police and security assistance.

At the end of the session, Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues at the US Department of State Douglas Davidson expressed satisfaction with the fact that the Croatian government had passed a decision to donate a corporate building in Dežmanova Street to the Zagreb Jewish Municipality.
