A conference on “Strengthening transparency and accountability to ensure integrity: United against corruption” was held as part of Croatia’s chairmanship of the Council of Europe 15-16 October 2018 in Šibenik. The conference was organized by the Ministry of Justice and GRECO, under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.

Keynote addresses were delivered by Justice Minister Dražen Bošnjaković and MFEA State Secretary for Political Affairs Zdravka Bušić.

The conference was dedicated to strengthening transparency and accountability aimed at ensuring the integrity of institutions. The participants underlined and advocated congruity between the traditional corruption fighting mechanisms and the media and public efforts.

In her address, Bušić stressed that corruption was a socially unacceptable phenomenon that endangers human rights and morality as well as the stability and prosperity of a country. She underlined the importance of keeping eyes on the state of a society and called for strengthening the efforts in raising the standards in this area. Bušić emphasized in particular the role of media, which are responsible for promoting transparency and accountability, and for creating an anticorruption atmosphere in the society.
