If they want to join the EU, Western Balkan countries must align with EU policies, including the introduction of sanctions against Russia, Croatia's Foreign and European Affairs Minister Gordan Grlić Radman said on Saturday.

“If the countries of the Western Balkans have decided to be a part of the European Union, they have to follow it strictly and align themselves with its policies,” he said at a panel discussion entitled "Western Balkans: A New Euro-Atlantic Momentum", held as part of the Dubrovnik Forum.

The minister added that it was impossible to sit in two chairs. “All countries should condemn the Russian aggression, impose sanctions, show solidarity with Ukraine and promote regional stability and good-neighbourly relations,” he said.

Grlić Radman underscored that was in Croatia’s interest to have a safe and stable neighbourhood, reiterating that Croatia can help Western Balkan countries with its know-how, expertise and experience on the journey to EU membership.
