Hido Biščević participated at an informal meeting of high European officials

State Secretary for political issues Hido Biščević participated as the appointed Secretary General of the Regional Co-operation Council (RCC) in Salzburg, on Wednesday, 1 August 2007, at an informal meeting of high European officials dealing with political processes and strengthening co-operation in this part of Europe

Along with State Secretary Biščević, the informal meeting was attended by EC Deputy Director General for Enlargement Jan Truszczyński, Special Co-ordinator of the Stability Pact Erhard Busek, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria Hans Winkler, EU Special Envoy for Kosovo status Stefan Lehne, Chief of the UN Mission to Kosovo (UNMIK) Joachim Rücker, and the EU Special Envoy for Macedonia Erwan Fouéré.

High officials discussed current situation in political and security issues in SEE. Special attention was paid to recent developments in Kosovo, and regarding the new round of negotiations between Belgrade and Priština participated by the US, EU and the Russian Federation. They expressed hope that new negotiations would bring new ideas and compromises on the line of Ahtisaary's plan, emphasising the need for a unique approach of the EU and Trans-Atlantic community. High officials confirmed that retaining and strengthening of democratic and Europe-oriented Serbian policy remained international community priority in the interest of Belgrade and further positive developments in this part of Europe.

State Secretary Biščević informed together with Special Co-ordinator of the Stability Pact Dr. Busek about preparations for the beginning of RCC activities, emphasising the need to retain political energy in the region demonstrated at the SEECP summit in Zagreb and supported by the EU and wider international community.
