Heads of Croatian, Bulgarian, Romanian NSOs meet with representatives of OECD Statistics and Data Directorate

Heads of the Croatian, Bulgarian, and Romanian national statistical offices (NSOs) met with representatives of the Statistics and Data Directorate of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The topic of the meeting was “Statistical Cooperation in the Context of OECD and ESS Accession”.
 
In his keynote address, Minister Gordan Grlić Radman, who is also the chief negotiator, thanked the OECD representatives as well as Romanian and Bulgarian colleagues for their cooperation. He recalled that this year Croatia marks the 30th anniversary of independence, adding that the road had been difficult, but that we had achieved many of our foreign policy goals, including the most important one – joining the EU and NATO. Still ahead are entry into the Schengen Area and the Eurozone on 1 January 2023 as well as OECD accession.
 
The minister reflected on the road to meeting the OECD membership criteria, saying that cooperation had begun as early as 1993, even though the official journey had started in 2017. He underscored satisfaction with the progress Croatia had made in the previous two years, which the OECD has recognized and in January 2022, its Council reached the decision to launch the accession talks.
 
Grlić Radman also thanked Director-General of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics Lidija Brković for organizing the meeting.
